Rhodes: Getting There
BY PLANE
You get to Rhodes from Athens after about 45 minutes of
flight. The island has two airports but only one is used for commercial
purposes.
The international airport Diagoras is
located at 17km from the city, near the village
of Paradissi. There are regular daily flights to Athens, to Heraklion
Crete, and to Thessaloniki. Rodos is also connected with the neighbouring
islands of Kastellorizo, Karpathos, and Kassos.
There are also regular international flights to and from Italy, England,
Germany and Israel, mostly during the summer, as well as a big number of
chartered flights to and from all around the world.
A public bus service connects the airport to the city.

BOAT
The commercial harbour is situated in the city. All international and
domestic ferries dock here as well as all the cruise liners.
There are regular ferry lines connecting Rhodes with Athens (Pireaus),
Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Cyprus and Turkey.
Rodos is also connected with all the neighbouring islands through
extensive boat and hydrofoil services. Most of them dock at the commercial
port and some at the Mandraki harbour.
Schedules information is available at the Harbour's Master Office.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The ferries sail when the weather is considered suitable and stable conditions are predicted. If the weather is bad, sailings will be cancelled (not often - but there are a few such days every year), and you should be accommodated on the next available sailing.
ADVICE: Allow flexibility in your schedule when
traveling by ferry as part of an ongoing journey. If delayed, see some of the sights of interest you may have missed! The shipping companies are prone to changing which ships they use on any given route - so as always, call to check if you want to book on a particular ship.
